Felicity is a drama created for the WB network, following the fictional life of a college student named Felicity Porter. Originally from California, Felicity graduated from high school to follow her crush to New York. The first episode shows Felicity asking her high school crush to sign her yearbook and choosing to go to school with him instead of going to Stanford. Her parents try to convince her to come back but in the end Felicity finds that New York is just what she needs to find herself.

Much of the show’s plot was centered on romance and love triangles. Felicity was on a mission to find herself so much of the show centers around self-realization. She also records her experiences on cassette tapes to send to one of her best friends back home.

Keri Russell, who played Felicity, was part of an ensemble cast that kept most of the main characters for the entirety of the series. Ben, the high school crush, was played by Scott Speedman and the other love interest, Noel, was played by Scott Foley. Other actors on the show included Tangi Miller, Amy Jo Johnson and Greg Gunberg. Russell, Speedman and Foley were the only three cast members to appear in every episode of the show. Janeane Garofalo, Tyra Banks, Jennifer Garner and Jane Lynch made guest appearances.

The show was not without controversy. One of the writers was hyped up for being a 19-year-old recent high school graduate. After Felicity producers checked her information, it was discovered she was actually 32. Her contract was not renewed after this information came out.

In the second season of Felicity, much of the controversy surrounded Felicity’s hair. A sharp decline in ratings led many to blame Keri Russell’s short hair cut for the drop in ratings. She went from having long, curly hair to a very short style. It was so noticeable that other television shows alluded to it, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, One Tree Hill, and Six Feet Under.

The show ran for four seasons, from 1998 to 2002. Each season corresponded to a year in college. In the show’s run it was nominated for 29 awards. It won a Golden Globe for Keri Russell’s performance. Award nominations included those from the NAACP Image Awards, Satellite Awards, and Teen Choice Awards. Now, fans can enjoy the entire series on DVD.
